CANASTA - Debut EP Release Show @ Subterranean - Saturday, Dec. 6th

(sent on 2003-11-21)

Well, it’s finally here. After months of what seemed to be empty promises, CANASTA is proud to present our first record: a five-song EP we're calling "Find the Time." For this release, we've recorded some of your new favorite songs: "Slow Down Chicago," "Just a Star," "Chance at Greatness," the instrumental "Two if by Sea," and, of course, our rendition of Kraftwerk’s "The Model." Excerpts of all five tracks, as well as the cover art, can be found here: www.canastamusic.com/audio/findthetime, along with ordering instructions for those of you reading from afar.

To celebrate, we're having a record release show at Subterranean on Saturday, December 6th, at 9:30 pm. There, the CD will be available for the first time and for just $5 at that! This will also be Canasta's first headlining show, so we'll be performing an hour-long set, featuring TWO new songs and ALL your old favorites (did someone say "Christmas"?). Come early and see openers Owen (Mike Kinsella of Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc, and American Football) and The Like Young (whose record Art Contest was named "Best New Rock Album by a Chicago Band" by New City). Then stay late and party with us at the club!

Sincere thanks go out to Paul Heintz of Midstates for engineering the record in his studio, and to Bryan Ward for mixing it. The disc was also mastered by Keith Cleversley, who’s worked with the Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev. Needless to say, we think it sounds great. Plus, the front, back, and inside of the CD feature fantastic photography by Sarah Hadley. Check out some highlights from her shoot with the band on our site. We couldn't have done it without any of these folks.

As always, thanks for all of your amazing support, and we'll see you at the show!
