SATURDAY, 8/23 - CANASTA & RAINBOW HOUSE JOIN FORCES AGAIN

(sent on 2003-08-19)

By this point, I'm sure most of you have heard us extolling the virtues of Rainbow House at one time or another. So I'll skip the "why" and go straight to the "what"... On Saturday, August 23rd, Canasta will be performing as part of Step Out to Stop Abuse 2003, a 5K lakefront walk benefiting eight domestic violence agencies, including our friends at Rainbow House. Last year, nearly 600 participants raised more than $70,000 to provide services for women and children in Chicagoland. This year, with your help and ours, they hope to top that.

We'll be playing at 11:00 AM and the location is Avery Field, home to Radiohead's legendary performance two years ago. If you thought our gig with Soul People and DJ Malik Shabazz was an odd match-up, wait 'til you see us sandwiched between a tap dancing troupe and Brazilian fighting game backed by a drum circle...

For the record, we're not responsible for bringing an audience; we're simply there to entertain the folks at the event. So there's no pressure on us and thus, no pressure on you (heh). But if you feel like enjoying a Saturday morning down by the lake, with the wind in your hair, Canasta in your ears and good feelings in your heart, then by all means, please join us. Or better yet, register to participate in the walk and help raise some money for Rainbow House! Click here for registration forms and more info.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to get your Canasta in a traditional rock setting, then stay tuned for details on our next nighttime show - happening Saturday, September 6th. Thanks and we hope to see you somewhere soon!
