CANASTA: CD Release Show THIS FRIDAY @ Subterranean

(sent on 2005-11-16)

Dearest Canasta fans,

Well, this is it. Our record-release show is THIS FRIDAY, November 18, at Subterranean, and we couldn't be more excited. Opening the show will be two fantastic bands: our friends Palaxy Tracks, who play gorgeous, moody indie rock, and recent Polyvinyl signees Headlights, who traffic in kitchen-sink indie pop. PLUS, joining us on stage during our set will be five very special guests: Edith Frost, Dave Max Crawford (Archer Prewitt's band), Ellen O'Hayer (Scotland Yard Gospel Choir), Ted Cho (Poi Dog Pondering), and the return of former Canasta member Jeff Leverenz. Look out!

Of course, it'll also be the first opportunity for most of you to purchase our debut full-length recording, We Were Set Up. The CD has already received some nice press. Flavorpill says we're "one of Chicago's sweetest songsmith-indebted rock bands," while UR Magazine claims we're "one of the most vibrant pop sounds to emerge from Chicago in years." Well said! We're expecting some additional press later this week, so keep your eyes peeled. And keep your ears open, too: in the last few weeks, Canasta has been featured on commercial radio stations WXRT and Q101, as well as college station WLUW, which is sponsoring Friday's show.

We're hoping to see as many of you as possible at the show -- but if you really can't make it, you should know that you can always purchase a CD through our website here: http://www.canastamusic.com/store/. And you can still listen to excerpts from all 13 tracks on the album, as well as download three full mp3s, here: http://www.canastamusic.com/audio/.

Looking forward to celebrating with you!
