CANASTA - 3 NEW MBRS. (!) NEXT THUR. 8/21 @ ABBEY PUB + "CHI. TONIGHT"

(sent on 2008-08-14)

Hidey Ho!

So the transition is complete... Canasta is now officially comprised of 50% new faces. Along with new keyboardist Ian Wilson and pianist Kyle Mann, we're ecstatic to welcome new drummer, Josh Lava, into the fold. Our old friends will obviously be missed, but we're feeling lucky to have found not only another three top-notch musicians, but folks who are anxious to make a serious go at this too. The new line-up will be unveiled next Thursday, 8/21, at Abbey Pub, where we'll join our friends Big Time (who play hits from the 80's in the style of a spot-on Tom Waits) and The Belmont Burlesque Revue, which is just what it sounds like it is. We're on first at 9, so come on out; Josh says he wants to meet all of you. Yes, every single one of you.

In other news, "Slow Down Chicago," Canasta's hit single (in an alternate universe), will be featured in the upcoming weeks on WTTW Channel 11's "Chicago Tonight" as transition music. As longtime admirers of both the show and host Phil Ponce's hairstyle, we're more than just a little excited to be featured.

Lastly, I'm happy to report that Canasta has been announced as part of the intial artist line-up for this year's CMJ Music Marathon in NYC. We'll be returning to Arlene's Grocery on Thursday, 10/23, to play with a gaggle of Chicago bands, including Deanna Devore, Joe Pug, Lacona, Brighton MA and others. Leading up to the fest, we're planning a week-long tour, which is just starting to take shape. So far, we've confirmed dates in Ames (Fri. 10/17) and Iowa City (Sat. 10/18). Unrelated to those, we've also got a show on the Quad at Kalamazoo College on Tue. 9/23, playing for the incoming students. Details on all those shows can be found below, but we'll update you again as the dates near. Thanks for reading... you guys are the best, you know that?
