CANASTA: New Year's Eve @ Beat Kitchen!

(sent on 2005-12-29)

Hey party people,

Just a reminder that Canasta is playing two shows on New Year's Eve at the Beat Kitchen! We're excited to be opening for two of Chicago's best indie-rock bands, Catfish Haven (Secretly Canadian) and Head of Femur (spinART). The first show (at 6 pm) is all-ages, so you can bring the whole family, while the second show (at 10 pm) is 21+. We'll be playing first for both sets, so you can easily come see us and then slip off to whatever other parties you may have. But I think you'll also find that the $15 cover makes this NYE party one of the cheapest tickets in town!

Thanks to everyone who came to see us on our recent mini-tour. We brought the Canasta magic to the cities of Detroit, New York, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee (Rust Belt represent!) and had a lot of fun on the road. We also picked up some good press along the way. Real Detroit Weekly says We Were Set Up is "quite impressive" and that we "sound ready for primetime right out of the box." calls the record a "fantastic full-length debut" that "harness[es] the chaos of collective creative sources into something incredibly tight and consistently good … a fresh sound for indie pop." And we also landed on the Northwest Indiana Times' list of the top 10 local releases of 2005. ("Musical diversity, quirkiness and loads of talent fuse into an eclectic 13-song set that is indelibly stylish and hard to pin down.")

It's been a good year for us, but we're hoping next year will be even better -- and that you can help us ring it in this Saturday night!

See you soon...
